This will be my fourteenth summer in Michigan. For the next few months, there will be mostly blue skies, the sun will shine most days and I will easily linger in the present moment, my daydreams of a sunnier location largely unnecessary.
It’s my first summer with Ringo and I can already tell he’s a summer dog, hovering by the door pleading to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. Rocky also loves the summer months and would prefer to spend his days outside this time of year.
We’ve had beautiful weather over the past week and I’ve been capturing some nice outdoor shots of the dogs. In the shot below, Rocky is taking in the new landscape, flush with fresh foliage and clover.

Ringo has discovered a shady spot where he can cool off. He likes to dig a hole in the dirt before lying down to get his space even cooler.

Of course, once Ringo vacated the spot, Rocky had to try it out.

This was also one of Charlie’s favorite spots for cooling off last summer.
Summer is also the time for smiling dog photos. They aren’t actually smiling, but when panting, it gives the appearance of a smile and it always makes me smile when I see it. Ringo’s got a great smile, as you can see in the photo below. 😀
What I love the most about this time of year is how easy it is to stay in the present moment and just let life unfold each day. I spend more time outside, take more photos and feel more carefree. It’s such a short season, but that’s what makes it so special.
I’m just going to immerse myself in it this summer, and forget about September until September.
