In this comprehensive workshop, we cover foundational knowledge about stress upon which healthy stress management practices can be built. Participants will leave with a greater awareness of the mechanisms and effects of stress as well as a range of proven solutions for better stress management. While designed as a three-hour program, this workshop can be modified to fit a ninety-minute time slot.
Mindfulness: The Basics, Benefits and Barriers to Mindful Living
In this one-hour workshop, we explore the concept of mindfulness to include what mindfulness is, the benefits of mindfulness, and the barriers on our path to a more mindful way of life. We also do mindfulness exercises together that participants can continue to use after class to build their mindfulness muscles. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of mindfulness and how to incorporate a mindfulness practice into their busy lives.
A Practical Approach to Meditation
Meditation is a natural technique used to manage stress, invoke relaxation and increase your sense of wellbeing. While this powerful tool should be accessible to everyone, misconceptions about meditation can get in the way. In this one-hour session, we demystify meditation by discussing what meditation is (and isn’t). We will discuss a simple and proven form of meditation called mindfulness meditation, which involves breath and body awareness techniques that help train our bodies and minds to be more focused and aware in the present moment. We’ll wrap up our session by practicing a mindfulness meditation together. The information learned in this class can be used to establish a home-based meditation practice.
