My interest in mindfulness began years ago, although I didn’t know it was called mindfulness back then. I simply noticed how dogs had a different way of being – living in and fully experiencing each moment. What I had once found to be amusing behavior on the part of a “goofy dog,” I now saw as a fascinating perspective that offered powerful teachings. I began observing the world through a dog’s eyes, often taking cues from my own beloved canines, and dogs became my first mindfulness teachers.
Eventually I undertook a more formal study and dove deeply into the topics of stress management, meditation and mindfulness. I first studied with Dr. Brian “Luke” Seaward, a renowned health psychologist and stress management expert based in Boulder, Colorado, and then with acclaimed meditation teacher, Sarah McLean of Sedona, Arizona. After studying with Luke and Sarah, I became certified respectively as a Holistic Stress Management Instructor and a Meditation and Mindfulness Instructor.
During my studies, I left my profession of twenty-plus years and the corporate world behind. I was ready for a change and knew I wanted to incorporate all that I had learned about the mind, body and spirit into the next chapter of my life. Teaching made perfect sense and presented an opportunity to return to my roots in health education while sharing simple yet transformational practices with others on the path to greater wellbeing.
My goal as an instructor is to help others see the possibilities of a calmer existence amid the chaos of modern life. I have a practical approach that appeals to those who wish to learn about simple, proven techniques for greater wellbeing, without the woo-woo undertones that occasionally accompany these topics. My focus on self care, cultivating mindfulness and gratitude, limiting attachments to digital devices, and spending more time in nature, is ideal for those seeking a clearer mind, resiliency to stress, higher energy levels, and better quality sleep.
My personal interests include photography, nature and the outdoors. I especially enjoy trail running, snowshoeing and long walks with my dogs. My journey has taken me all over the United States from North Carolina, to Florida, Washington DC, New Mexico and currently Michigan, where I live with my husband and our two beloved canines.
